How do I determine the size of my table?

What is regulation size for a pool table?

A lot of people ask about “regulation” size pool tables. Tournament pool is played on many different sizes, depending on the body governing the event. When you watch pros on TV playing pool, they are usually playing on a 9’ table, but there are other tournaments played on 7’ pool tables. Most people have 8’ tables in their home; however, it’s really up to the consumer to decide what they want. Our experience is that most people don’t have the space for a 9’ table in their home and 8’ is the most common. The most important questions to answer are what you can afford and how much room you have. Most of the people who purchase 9’ tables are serious players who are using the table to sharpen their skills for 9’ tournament play.

Is my pool table slate?

Most pool tables are 3-piece slate, although there are a lot of non-slate tables sold. They are even marketed as slatron or perma-slate and other names that basically mean “wood that is painted gray to look like slate.” Slate is the best playing surface for a pool table, due to its weight and durability. A good slate table will be diamond-honed and machine-cut to meet specifications for true flatness. You can try to crawl under the table to determine if it’s slate or not, but if you’re still not sure, you can Contact Us with pictures or the manufacturer’s name and we should be able to help you determine the type of slate.

I would like to put a rug under my table. Is that a good idea?

If you have hardwood floors, tile, or concrete and would like to place a rug under the table, it is personal preference. Rugs can be beneficial in dulling the echo of the balls rolling across the table or just in dressing up the look of the room. I would not recommend putting a rug on top of a carpeted floor; they tend to bunch up around the table. We ask that if you want to put a rug under your table that you have it in place before we arrive, and we will help you adjust it if necessary.





Many times, people will use their pool table to hang lights or change light bulbs. This is Never OK! Most pool tables are 3-piece slate, and while very heavy and sturdy, if too much weight is applied to the playing surface, the slate seams (where the pieces meet up) can pop loose and create a ridge or bump under the felt. This will require re-leveling of the table.


Pool Tables are made for playing pool, not sitting on. Pull up a chair if you want to sit down! This can cause the seams to pop loose or the cushions to fall off the rail (weight is usually applied directly down on the cushion where it is seated on the rail).


Most pool tables are made to be disassembled before moving. There are very few exceptions to this rule. If you attempt to move your pool table in any way, the warranty is void and you could possibly cause the table to collapse or damage pieces of the table that may very well be irreplaceable. Furthermore, if your pool table is moved by anyone other than an authorized technician, the warranty could be void. At the very least, moving the table will generally require re-leveling. We have specialty tools to help us slide tables as necessary, and we are happy to give you a quote for our Services.

What can I do to maintain my felt?

We sell a spray cleaner and microfiber cloth ($20) that works extremely well to clean felt. This cleaner attracts dust and dirt and will not only make your felt look new, but will also prolong the life of it. Otherwise, we recommend brushing the felt in one direction. I usually tell folks to brush from the head of the table to the foot (direction of break). Vacuums are not recommended, however a low-suction, non-brush vacuum like a dustbuster would be OK. A lint roller also works well for cleaning up dark colored felt.

How do I protect my pool table?

The best protection for your pool table is a heavy duty cover, which can be purchased for $79 – $99 at our store, or from a technician at time of set-up. This will protect your table from dust, animals, and sunlight. Sunlight is damaging to the finish and rubber cushions and will discolor the felt. Keep in mind that anything you put on the top rails (furniture polish) can leave a residue that will likely get transferred to the felt through players’ hands. Furthermore, do not put conditioner on the leather pockets as it will transfer from the balls to the felt.

Does Everything Billiards offer a warranty on their service?

We want our customers to be happy! We offer a 90 day service warranty on any pool table that we service. This warranty is void if someone stands or sits on the pool table, or tries to move it in any way! If you have a legitimate concern, we will do anything within reason to make it right.

Do the pool tables you sell come with a warranty?

All of our new pool tables come with a true lifetime warranty against structural defects. Our pre-owned pool tables come with a 90 day warranty. Again, if you have a legitimate concern, we will do anything within reason to make it right. Felt is not guaranteed, although if there is any defect upon installation, we will obviously bring out a new piece!

Is Everything Billiards insured?

Everything Billiards has a $1,000,000 General Liability Insurance Policy. We also carry Cargo Insurance for items in transit, employee theft bonding, and workers compensation. We are licensed and certified by major pool table manufacturers.




How much notice do you need to schedule our service or move?

We are generally booked out a week or two, although this varies by season, and we will go to great lengths to try and work something out for you if at all possible. The first step to scheduling service is to fill out our Service Request form, and we will contact you to set up an appointment within a few hours.

We are moving long distance and have a moving company to handle our furniture and household items. Will they handle our pool table?

If you are moving long distance and using a moving company, your table needs to be disassembled professionally and the slate should be crated. Most reputable moving companies will not handle slate pool tables unless the slate is crated. Please fill out our Service Request form, and we will contact you to set up an appointment within a few hours.

We are moving long distance and are doing the move ourselves. Can EB help us with our pool table?

If you are moving yourself and want to move the pool table, you should consider having us disassemble the table and consult with you on the moving process; however, we are happy to advise you whether you want us to disassemble the table or not. Pool table slate weighs about 600 pounds and can be very difficult and expensive to replace should any damage occur during the move/disassembly, so we always recommend having a professional perform the disassembly/reassembly. Please fill out our Service Request form, and we will contact you to set up an appointment for disassembly within a few hours.




What area do you service?

We service tables all over the state and in other areas as needed. Our general service area covers about a 50 mile radius of the Triad (Greensboro, Winston-Salem, High Point) and the Charlotte area. We also travel to Raleigh – Durham – Chapel Hill and surrounding areas to fill demand a couple days each week. Furthermore, we service pool tables in and around Danville, VA and all areas in-between. Please Contact Us if you’re outside these areas and looking for someone to service your table. If we don’t service your area, we may know a good technician who does.

Where are your stores located?

Everything Billiards & Spas Greensboro is located at 111 Guilford College Road, Greensboro, NC 27409, just off of Market Street, with easy access from Wendover and Friendly.  Everything Billiards Concord is located at 7730 Bruton Smith Blvd, Concord, NC 28207, down the road from both Concord Mills and the Speedway, right off of I-85.

Do you charge extra for delivery if we are outside of the Triad area?

Within reason, if you purchase a table from us, we generally do not charge extra for delivery.

Do you charge extra for service if we are outside the Triad area?

If you are in one of the areas that we travel to each week, we do not charge extra for service in these areas.

What are your store hours?

Both the Greensboro and Concord locations are open Monday – Saturday, 10:00 – 6:00pm.  However, we are flexible and will gladly set up an appointment for you outside of business hours if necessary.




How much does it cost to move and/or service my pool table?

Each move is priced individually based on difficulty and distance. Just to give you an idea, we generally charge around $350 to move an 8’ pool table locally from one residence to another. This price can sometimes be a little more or less, dependent upon your unique situation. We can usually get you an estimate within a few hours if you send us the information we need. Please fill out our Service Request form as thoroughly as possible, and we will respond as soon as possible with a quote and to schedule your job.

What are the available felt colors?

We carry many different brands of pool table cloth – the most commonly used is Championship Invitational Felt, but we also stock Hainsworth Elite Pro and Simonis Cloth. Each brand has its own Color Chart. Please keep in mind that if you choose your felt color online, monitor settings will vary from computer to computer, causing shades to appear lighter or darker in some cases. We highly recommend that you choose your felt in person at one of our stores if at all possible.

Do the prices of felt vary based on color and/or brand?

Standard felt replacement (Championship Invitational Blended Wool) is what we include in estimates for recreational users. There is a small additional fee for Titan Brite colors, but all other colors are the same cost. If you would like to upgrade to a Worsted Wool Cloth (Simonis, Hainsworth, Milliken Super Pro, Pro-Form, or Other), let us know and we can explain the differences and upgrade cost. View Color Chart.

What are the “cushions” and how do I know if they need replacing?

Cushion Rubber is an integral part of the pool table as it provides the rebound of the ball off the rail. There is a designated height that the cushion rubber should be from the playing surface, which is determined by the profile of the rail and the rubber. It is applied with contact glue and cut to match the opening of the pocket accordingly. Each cushion should have the same amount of play in it and they should be checked all the way around the table. If there are any hard spots, then the whole set needs to be replaced. Some cushion rubber will become soft and spongy over time and will have a memory foam effect – this is also a sign of necessary replacement. When replacing cushions, the felt must also be replaced – something to keep in mind when looking at used tables, as this can drive up the cost of a “great used deal” considerably. We check the cushions on each used table we purchase and sell, and replace them if necessary, so the table will be in excellent playing condition for its new owners!

If my cushions need replacing, how long does this process take?

This process requires stripping the old rail rubber, sanding the old glue off the wood, gluing the new cushions on, and letting them cure for 24 hours before we proceed. We generally bring the rails back to the shop to replace the cushions, and it can take anywhere from a couple of days to a week to complete the job and get the rails back on your table, depending on time constraints. How long does it take to move and/or re-felt a pool table?

Excluding travel time, we average about 3 hours total to disassemble and reassemble most pool tables. Add about an hour for re-felting. This varies based upon difficulty level and placement in the home. We ask that you plan for us to be in your home about an hour for disassembly and 2-3 hours for reassembly. Antique and specialty tables can take 4-6 hours or possibly longer.

What should I look for when buying a used pool table?
